We bring together 57 artists from Rogaland and Agder with nearly 200 works in a major group exhibition at Landeskogen Art Sanatorium. The exhibition marks the establishment of a new artistic meeting point in Setesdal.
Welcome to Over the moors – Landeskogen pREopening, a major group exhibition marking the beginning of a new era for Landeskogen and the establishment of a new artistic meeting point between Rogaland and Agder.
For centuries, Setesdal and Rogaland have been connected through travel, trade, and cultural exchange across the highlands. These connections have shaped landscapes, histories, and human relationships. In the 20th century, these ties were further strengthened when Landeskogen served as a tuberculosis sanatorium for patients from Agder and Rogaland, and later as a psychiatric hospital under Nærlandsheimen in Jæren. Today, this historic site is being put to use again – this time as a space for art and creative exploration.
Over the moors brings together 57 artists from Rogaland and Agder, presenting nearly 200 works in a large and diverse group exhibition. Visitors will encounter visual art in a wide range of techniques and forms – from painting, graphics, and drawing to sculpture, installation, photography, video, and cross-media projects.
The exhibition activates the 110-year-old sanatorium’s rooms and architecture, allowing contemporary art to engage with a site steeped in history. In this way, Landeskogen Art Sanatorium emerges as a new arts and cultural venue in the heart of Setesdal.
The title Over the moors refers to the physical and symbolic connections between the regions – a journey across mountains and highlands that has linked people for generations. Through art, these connections are continued and renewed, bringing together diverse perspectives and expressions to open new reflections.
